Gustavian-Style Marquetry Chest of Drawers, Early 20th Century
Description
A magnificent Swedish Gustavian-style chest of drawers that perfectly combines neoclassical symmetry with refined elegance.
This 20th-century piece is in impeccable condition, comparable to a showroom example, making it a rare find for collectors and interior design enthusiasts.
Design & Craftsmanship
The chest features exceptional marquetry work. The front is centered with a classical oval medallion depicting a draped figure, framed by intricate geometric motifs and delicate inlaid detailing. The sides display a vibrant matched grain in warm tones of kingwood and rosewood.
Materials
• Stone: The piece is crowned with its original thick marble top (Plum / Violetta Breccia). The marble is flawless, with no cracks or scratches.
• Bronze: Adorned with high-quality gilt bronze mounts (ormolu), including a decorative laurel leaf frieze along the upper drawer and elegant neoclassical hardware.
• Drawers: Two deep drawers without a central crossbar (“sans traverse”), allowing the marquetry design to flow uninterrupted across the façade.
Condition
As new. This piece has been exceptionally well maintained. The wood finish has a beautiful sheen, the structure is solid, and the marble top is perfect. It is ready to be placed immediately in a refined, high-end interior.
